How to optimize your website for Google Singapore
Optimize your website for Google Singapore – Google.com.sg
We are often asked how you can optimise a website or webpage so that it shows up in local search engines such as Google Singpapore.
This is a common challenge and one that can be easily over come as long as you think and plan ahead.
First off this site it highly targeted for Singapore despite it being a .com and not a .com.sg. Having a .com.sg is a massive advantage to getting listed high in local search engines so right off – if you can create a local website do that.
If you are wanting to retain a .com for specific reasons then you have to do the next best thing which is localise your content.
Optimize your website for Google Singapore with localized content
Here are a few things you can do to localise your content:
- Use the country name in the Page title – that is in the HTML page title <title> – this is one the best ways to do this
- Make sure that if you are wanting to rank in multiple countries that you split your content into categories with the full name of the country such as Singapore. Then publish each content item in its correct country
- Add the country name to the meta description tag as part of the description
- Add the country name into the page title like we have done for this content item
- Add a link with the country items to the bottom of the page and make it bold. So if we have a Singapore content category then create a link called Singapore articles and ONLY add the hyperlink to the work Singapore then link to all the Singapore article content (this is easy to to with a CMS or blog but with HTML you will need to create that category menu page manually)
Doing these simple things will get you the result that you are wanting. Don’t expect to get a result over night if you are trying to rank for many countries but this will make sure the content strategy is correct.
If you are wanting a .com but ALL your focus is still in a local country such as Singapore, then the next thing you can do is tell Google via the Google Webmaster tools that your site is focused on a specific country. DO NOT though do this then publish content with lots of information about other countries – you will struggle then to rank anywhere!
