SEO Tips – Think like a magazine publisher

So many people make things complicated in the world. SEO does not escape the blaze of complexity spreading like wildfire everywhere in the world. In fact like in many other technical industries, people deliberately complicate things so that they can create a market and sell their SEO services.

SEO is fundamentally very simple once you have your foundation in place. All you need to do is deliver quality content that is rich with keywords, on a regular basis. That is the core of SEO. Everything else is icing. Content is everything.

This website has its content consistently indexed and ranking in the top three pages of Google.com.sg within 3 minutes of posting! When I first noticed this event I was astonished but as I tested the event occurred time and time again. Google simply loves fresh NEW UNIQUE content on a REGULAR basis. Give Google this and it will come running when you ask it (from Pings) and index your content as soon as you post it because you are consistently delivering what IT WANTS – fresh, original content.

If you are ‘silly’ enough not to add any content to your site month after month, Google will not come running that quick. If you are lucky it will send its little spider a week later (we see this all the time with new clients we take on). Yet once you keep giving Google what it wants the spider is like a little puppy dog and when you blow the whistle it comes right away because it knows it will receive a treat.

I have to be careful NOT to save a new entry now till I have fully finished it seeing if I do the page will be indexed before I have finished writing! Getting Google to come back then is a little trickier, it will not rush back a second time as quick as the first.

SEO and magazine publishing

So what has a magazine editor got to do with SEO? If a magazine delivered the same information week in week out, and the cover was always the same, what do you think would happen to sales? Of course the magazine would die – no one would be interested. To keep people interested a magazine has to be fresh, interesting and contain new information that the target readers want.

Web publishing and attracting search engine rankings is no different to magazine publishing – make it fresh, change it often, make sure there’s plenty to read and give everything a great title. Do the same with your web content and your SEO rankings will sky-rocket.

If you want to take your SEO to the next level then you do what good magazine publishers do – research. They research what people are interested in and what is the latest fad.

If you take the time to research what people are searching on then you can find amazing traffic flows that will bring you two or three hundred people a month to your site simply by adding a page or two of content to your site.

I did this with one of my test blog sites and I now have 250 people a month coming from Google searching on the keyword that I now rank no2 in Google.com. All I did to create this traffic was some keyword research (we teach this in our SEO Training course – SEO SUCCESS) and then create two pages on our website in our SEO Blog. Within a month we were number 2 and now enjoy the traffic for free. Imagine doing 5 of those a month and then in a year you could be seeing over ten thousand people a month coming to your site (we have another test site that has this level of traffic now – we spent 5 hours creating the content and setting it up and have done nothing since).
